UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom today, who received him at her residence at Winsor Castle, just outside the British capital.
They discussed ways of strengthening the historic ties between the UAE and the UK, especially in cultural and humanitarian areas. They also exchanged views on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in many parts of the world, arising as a consequence of war, famine and natural disasters.
These calamities, the two leaders agreed, increased the international community's moral and humanitarian obligations towards protecting the poor and the needy around the world.
Praising the UAE's compassionate stance and benevolent ideals, Queen Elizabeth commended the country for providing medical and food aid, as well as educational assistance to some of the poorest nations around the world.
Charities and humanitarian organisations from the UAE play a significant role in alleviating the suffering of the poor around the world, she remarked, before adding that these institutions offer a livelihood, education and medication to the most disadvantaged groups, such as children and sick people.
