Man City set to seal Etisalat sponsorship
ABU DHABI - Emirates Telecommunications Corp., or Etisalat, has signed an agreement for a three-year sponsorship deal with Manchester City Football Club that will make it the Premier League team's exclusive telecoms partner in the 18 countries in which it operates.
Etisalat and Manchester City signed Tuesday an agreement "which precedes a full three-year strategic sponsorship agreement to be formalized later this year," Etisalat said in a statement. Etisalat did not disclose the value of the sponsorship deal.
Abu Dhabi royal Sheik Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan bought the final 10% controlling stake in Manchester City Football Club in September. The sheik, who acquired 90% of the club for GBP210 million in September last year, has since turned it into highest-spend club in the league.
The sponsorship deal will also see Manchester City stream specialized content to hundreds of thousands of people in a region with one of the highest mobile penetration rates in the world.
The sponsorship will provide "customized Manchester City FC content through mobile communications channels," said Garry Cook, Manchester City's chief executive.
Etihad Airways, the United Arab Emirates' national airline, also sponsors Manchester City.
